Chris Webber's Revenge: Selling Burgers in a Michigan Jersey That Doesn't Say Michigan on the Front
Chris Webber is in a new March Madness-themed Burger King ad. I’m sure we’ll see this ad about a million times over the next couple weeks, but each time you see it, I hope you get as big of a kick out of it as I do. You’ll notice that Webber appears in a yellow #4 jersey with his name on the back that looks a lot like his University of Michigan jersey.
Mitch Albom famously shared a story in the Fab Five book about Webber not being able to buy lunch while he and Albom looked at his #4 jersey hanging in the bookstore window. Webber would never see any of the money from his jersey sales and now here he is 20-years later selling burgers using a Michigan jersey-wearing version of himself.
As Ty Duffy notes, the commercial is fitting since according to the NCAA, Webber never actually played at Michigan. I wonder, is this the NCAA’s version of Back to the Future? Is Webber slowly disappearing from this commercial? My god! King and Jackson have already faded away! Someone get Steve Fisher to punch the teenage version of the NCAA in the face!
