Clint Dempsey's Goal Put the U.S. Ahead 2-1 vs. Portugal
By Mike Cardillo
Clint Dempsey put the U.S. on the verge of qualifying for the knockout Rounds of the 2014 World Cup with, well, a goal off his gut. The play started by DeAndre Yedlin, a second half sub, and after that fell to Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi and finally Dempsey’s breadbasket. Portugal defender Bruno Alves kept Dempsey onside.
Not the prettiest goal ever scored, but one of the most important in American World Cup history.
