Coastal Carolina's "Swinging Gate" 2-Point Conversion Attempt Failed in Comical Fashion

There are a fair amount of college football teams that line up in unconventional formations on PATs in the hope of catching an opponent off guard. If the opportunity presents itself, these teams will snap the ball and attempt to convert a two-point conversion. It’s a fine idea in theory. In the real world, however, things can go horribly wrong — as they did for Coastal Carolina last night.

The Chanticleer’s fancy two-point attempt was derailed shortly after the snap when the wide receiver who received it did his best Jameis Winston impression. All things considered, Coastal Carolina was quite lucky the play wasn’t returned 80 yards to the other end zone. That good fortune had turned by the game’s final whistle as Liberty pulled the upset, 24-21.

There’s a strong possibility you’ll never see this play again. Predicting a Tony Sparano like send-off for that entire section of the playbook.
