Doug McDermott Topped 3,000 Career Points on This 3-Pointer

Doug McDermott, the Creighton senior, topped the 3,000 point mark for his career on this three-pointer against Providence. McDermott is the 8th player in college basketball history to top 3,000 points, and the first since Keydren Clark of St. Peter’s in 2006.

While the mark is certainly impressive, and probably will help the forward lock up the National Player of the Year award, McDermott has played more games in his career (139) than anyone else on the list. Other players on the list you may recognize: Lionel Simmons (LaSalle) who finished with 3,217 points and Hersey Hawkins (Bradley) who finished with 3,008.

The career mark, which will never be threatened, belongs to Pete Maravich, who scored 3,667 points in an astonishing 83 games. And remember, there was no 3-pointer when Maravich set that mark. He averaged 44 points per game during his career at LSU.
