Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Week 10: Good Times with J.J. Nelson

Two weeks is a long time in fantasy football, so J.J. Nelson being named the starter in Arizona opposite Larry Fitzgerald has probably faded from public consciousness. Michael Floyd has continued to disappoint, John Brown has battled injuries, and all Nelson did when given an opportunity in week 8 was score two touchdowns. With the matchup this week against the 49ers, Nelson (owned in 21% of CBS leagues) becomes an immediate top 30 WR option.

Here are the rest of the waiver wire recommendations for week 10:

Byes: Buffalo, Detroit, Indianapolis, Oakland

QUARTERBACKS

Shallow: Joe Flacco (58%) got Steve Smith back last week and is going against a Browns defense that just got torched by Dak Prescott, and is 2nd-worst in the league in pass touchdowns allowed per game.

In a week without Matthew Stafford, Andrew Luck, Derek Carr, and Tyrod Taylor, Flacco is a top 12 option.

Average: Trevor Siemian (42%) goes against the Saints, who have allowed the most passing yards per game in 2016.

Deep: Jay Cutler (15%) comes back after a bye, and gets a Bucs defense that has been very vulnerable, and just got torched by Matt Ryan and Derek Carr in consecutive weeks.

RUNNING BACKS

Shallow: Rob Kelley (62%) vs MIN played well in his opportunity with Matt Jones out, in London against the Bengals, and should continue to get work going forward. He’s worth a hold this week to see how he is used.

Average: Paul Perkins (41%) has seen his role expand, and last week against the Eagles, got an identical number of touches as veteran Rashad Jennings. He is the top running back option this week, based on the opportunity for his role to expand with Jennings not being irreplaceable, and Vereen out for the year. He’s a flex start this week with upside down the stretch.

James Starks (41%) returned to practice last week, and could be back in the active lineup this week for a Packers team that has a backfield mess. Starks doesn’t have a ton of upside but should lead the team in carries upon his return, and get some touchdowns.

Peyton Barber (40%) could be the last man standing in Tampa. Antone Smith also went on IR, and we haven’t seen Doug Martin come back healthy yet. Depending on who else is active, Barber could be a top 25 start vs CHI in the short term.

Kenneth Dixon (34%) has not done much since coming back from the MCL injury, but he did get an identical workload to Terrance West last week, and this week, the Ravens play the Browns, who have given up the 2nd most RB points, behind only the woeful 49ers.

Deep: Kapri Bibbs (15%) had a nice receiving touchdown, but we are probably a few weeks away from seeing if he can make this a committee situation with Devontae Booker. That said, because they are playing the Saints, he is a desperation flex option this week, with hope of some big plays.

WIDE RECEIVERS

All Leagues: Rishard Matthews (13%) has three touchdowns in the last four games, and looks like the top option for the moment in Tennessee, and should be a low-end WR3 in deep leagues against the Packers.

Watch the Maclin injury news, because of all the options, Tyreek Hill (31%) gives the most upside with an increase in touches.

Quinton Patton (0%) has been targeted 20 times in the last 3 weeks by Kaepernick and is a low-end option this week if you need a starter.

Keep an eye on Bryce Treggs (0%) in deep leagues. The Eagles need someone to emerge, as Nelson Agholor continues to be inconsistent, and Dorial Green-Beckham was targeted 5 times without a catch. Undrafted rookie Treggs is a deep threat that impressed in limited action Sunday, and looks like he is going to get a bigger look going forward.

TIGHT ENDS

Shallow: Zach Miller (55%) at TB is the top recommendation at tight end this week.

Zach Ertz (51%) has been inconsistent and coming back from injury, but had 8 catches for 97 yards last week and has a great matchup this week against the Falcons.

Deep: Don’t forget about CJ Fiedorowicz (26%) coming off the bye week as he has been a bigger part of the Texans’ offense for a month now.
