FOX Sports Debuts New Graphics for U.S. Open Coverage

The U.S. Open has been hosted on NBC and ESPN since 1995, and now that run is over. This year will be the first of a 12-year deal where FOX Sports will host the U.S. Open and other USGA Championship events. Their announcing crew consists of Joe Buck and two-time major winner Greg Norman in the booth, and Brad Faxon, Holly Sonders, David Fay, Corey Pavin, Juli Inkster and Shane O’Donoghue on the course.

During the broadcast we’ll get to see some interesting new graphics that FOX is trying out. While I’m not very excited to have more digital things pop up on my screen during a golf broadcast, I’ll withhold judgment on them until after I see some of FOX’s coverage. The graphics in the video above that was shared by FOX on Twitter will definitely give viewers more insight into distances and undulations in the greens, and they look interesting and pretty, but I’m just not sure they’re necessary.

As for the RC car camera seen in the video, just wait until that thing gets too close to Tiger after he misses a shot and pegs it with his club.
