Gary Woodland Forgot to Tuck His Shirt Into His Underwear and Under Armour Isn't Thrilled About It
By Michael Shamburger
During the final round of the Honda Classic, Gary Woodland stripped down to his boxers for a shot from the water on the par-4 sixth hole. After removing his shoes, socks, and pants so they wouldn’t get wet, Woodland was left standing in just his shirt, boxers, and Under Armour hat.
This didn’t seem to be a problem for anyone at the time it happened, and was a rather funny moment from the tournament. Unfortunately now we learn from Woodland that Under Armour wasn’t happy with him for one particular reason.
Why?
Well because his boxers were Under Armour branded, and the only place to see the branding is on the waistband which was covered by Woodland’s Under Armour shirt. Woodland recounted at an event for Under Armour’s new golf shoes, what the company told him after seeing him strip on the course.
"“The next day, [Under Armour] wanted to know why I wasn’t wearing Under Armour underwear,” Woodland said. “I said ‘I was!’ Their underwear is some of the best stuff they have.”"
This normally wouldn’t be an issue, but Woodland’s shot got a lot of airtime and circulation on the web, so Under Armour wasn’t too thrilled that they missed out on an opportunity to promote their line of boxers.
"“They said, ‘next time, make sure to tuck your shirt in,'” Woodland said."
Woodland’s shirt appears to hang a good five to six inches down past the waist band of his boxers, so tucking it in may restrict his movement for a shot. So maybe the next time Woodland strips down on the course, which likely won’t happen for a very long time, he’ll just go ahead and remove his Under Armour branded shirt as well.
