Gus Johnson Erupted on Goals from Patrice Evra and Mario Mandzukic
By Mike Cardillo
Patrice Evra briefly put Manchester United ahead vs. Bayern Munich with this sensational strike from out of nowhere in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal in Germany. Gus Johnson, calling the game for Fox Sports 1, shrieked in his trademark fashion as the rocket from the French defender blasted into the net. .
Seventy seconds later Johnson again reached the top of his vocal register with Mario Mandzukic leveling the score for Bayern.
Say whatever you will about Johnson as a soccer announcer, but he at least his vocal chords weren’t tapped out following Evra’s goal. The goals livened up a match that was otherwise a snoozer to that point.
Bayern took the lead on aggregate, 3-2, on a goal from Thomas Muller in the 66th minute.
