Jack Nicklaus Museum on Ohio State's Campus is Losing $200,000 Annually

The Jack Nicklaus museum honoring the 18-time major champion, and Ohio State graduate, that sits on the campus of the Ohio State Buckeyes is losing around $200,000 annually. The 24,000-square-foot facility generated a mere $29,874 in revenue in 2014; the majority of that was from ticket sales, which cost $10 each. Just doing some quick math, that’s less than nine paying visitors per day over the course of a year.
According to Columbus Business First, that was barely enough to cover the electricity bill of $27,000.
"“It’s typically been in that ($200,000) neighborhood,” Associate Athletics Director Pete Hagan told me. “We knew that when we took the facility over years ago. I don’t really see that facility being able to attract enough business to make it break even.”"
Director Pete Hagan also noted that amount, $200,000, barely makes a dent in the annual Ohio State athletic department budget, which is self-sustained, of $154 million.
