Jadeveon Clowney: Jay Z Already Recruiting Him To Join Roc Sports, According to a Report
By Ty Duffy
According to a report from Inside the League, Jay Z has been recruiting South Carolina star Jadeveon Clowney to be the first marquee NFL signing for Roc Sports. The two have had “regular contact under the guise of the rapper recruiting him for his marketing potential.” It’s thought to be an all but a done-deal. Clowney did not dismiss the notion on Instagram.
Why Roc Sports for Clowney? Well, besides getting to pop champagne with the Royal Family on occasion, Inside the League suggests the agency, unlike some of the more established ones, would be willing to accept the two-percent maximum fee Clowney wants to pay. There also isn’t that much to negotiate for Roc Sports football agent Kim Miale, since the CBA has set the value of being the No. 1 overall pick.

This does not appear to be an NCAA violation. Jay Z, himself, is not a licensed agent for the NFL. Even if he meets the NCAA definition of “agent,” talking to him is not an NCAA violation. The contact would be kosher, provided the two did not reach an “oral” or “written” agreement and Clowney was not provided with any “improper benefits.”
Why “student-athletes” must be saved from the moral taint of having competent representation is a question for another post.
