Joey Votto's Canadian Mountie Impression is Actually Pretty Funny
By Mike Cardillo
Joey Votto is renowned for his patience at the plate. The Reds first baseman has led the National League in on-base percentage the last four seasons and walks the last three. So in a not-so-crazy way it’s fitting that Votto, a Toronto native, possesses baseball’s driest wit, too.
Here he is on MLB Network’s Intentional Talk in a full Royal Canadian Mounted Police outfit, answering absurd questions from Kevin Millar and Chris Rose. Votto barely breaks character, embracing his inner Canuck almost the entire interview. (Stick around for the bonus jokes about Quebec.)
Granted, Votto isn’t going to displace anyone on the list of Canada’s greatest comedians but perhaps now that The Trailer Park boys are filming new episodes they can bring him in for a cameo at Sunnyvale. Mr. Lahey could always use some stern, police assistance, right?
