John Terry's Own Goal Blew the EPL Title Race Wide Open, Again
By Mike Cardillo
John Terry turned in Joe Ledley’s cross for an own-goal in the 52 minute and Crystal Palace shocked Chelsea with a 1-0 victory at London’s Selhurst Park Saturay in the EPL. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy in the form of Terry, right?
The own-goal opens up the Premier League title chase once again. Chelsea already let Liverpool and Manchester City back into the race two weeks ago, losing 1-0 at Aston Villa but Saturday’s defeat might spell the ends of the Blues’ hopes of bringing the title back to Stamford Bridge unless Jose Mourinho’s deal with the devil manifests itself over the final two months.
Here’s how we stand Saturday afternoon, prior to kickoff of Arsenal/Manchester City:
- Chelsea 69 points, 32 games played
- Liverpool 68 points, 31 games played
- Manchester City 66 points, 29 games played
- Arsenal 63 points, 31 games played
Based on the games in hand, City remain the title favorites however if Arsenal gets a result later today it throws the table into full chaos and puts Liverpool — which plays Tottenham on Sunday — into the driver’s seat. City would move into first place on goal differential with a win today. Liverpool hosts City on April 13 at Anfield. It’s shaping up to be the game of the season however the results play out of the rest of this weekend.
