Jordan Spieth Plays Amazing Down the Stretch to Win the Dean and DeLuca Invitational

Jordan Spieth hasn’t seemed like himself since his terrible collapse at the Masters and hasn’t won a tournament since early January. Or course, Spieth has only played in two tournaments since the Masters, but he followed up his Masters performance with a missed cut at the Players, and then looked like he was cruising to a win at the Byron Nelson after rounds of 64-65-67, and then finished with a 74 and tied for 18th. His putting looked off and his driver was inconsistent leading some, myself included, wondering if he was going to be able to pull himself together and collect a win before heading to Oakmont where he will need every aspect of his game to be on point if he wants to defend his U.S. Open title.

Well, it took just one more event for things to return to normal. Spieth regained his composure and his confidence this week at the Dean and DeLuca Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. After opening with a 67, and then getting better on Friday with a 66, and even better on Saturday with a 65, Spieth seemed to be regaining control of things. On Sunday, during the final round, Spieth made nine straight pars on the front nine holes and then started the back nine with three birdies before dropping a stroke after a miss hit out of a green side bunker on the par-3 13th.

He rebounded quickly and made a spectacular putt to save par on the par-4 14th hole after leaving a shot out of a fairway bunker short of the green.

And then he made a beautiful putt for birdie on the par-3 16th to take sole possession of the lead at -15 ahead of Harris English (-14).

Spieth then chipped in for birdie on the par-4 17th and delivered a very #TourSauce club flip.

Here’s the beautiful chip.

Spieth then drained a 35 foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to finish with a 65. When it was all said and done, Spieth finished the back nine with six birdies, two pars and a bogey. It’s safe to assume he’s restored his confidence.

Next week Spieth will join just about everyone at the Memorial tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. With Spieth coming off of a win, Jason Day playing like a man possessed and coming off of a win and Rory McIlroy also coming off of a win at the Irish Open, get ready, because this is about to get good.
