Josh Gordon Bond Following DWI Arrest Paid For By Convicted Felon
By Jason McIntyre
Josh Gordon, the NFL’s leading receiver in 2013, was arrested for DWI in North Carolina Saturday morning. He blew a .09, which was slightly over the legal limit of .08. Gordon was popped by police going 50 in a 35 mph zone. Gordon, 23, admitted to having three mixed drinks.
Gordon was already looking at around an 8-game suspension during the 2014 season for a failed drug test, but this DWI will almost certainly end any hopes he had of playing in 2014.
And there’s even worse news, Cleveland fans: The man who bailed Gordon out of jail was Haydn “Fats” Thomas, a convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet. College basketball fans know him as the guy in the car with PJ Hairston in 2013, an arrest that ultimately led to Hairston’s ouster at UNC. They tried to ditch a gun ahead of a police checkpoint, and police busted them.
Gordon needs to get into rehab, forget about 2014, and aim to get back on the football field again in 2015. He’s one of the most promising young receivers in the NFL – a speedy, game-breaking pass-catcher – who could have a promising career ahead of him if he can give up the drugs and alcohol.
