Kevin Martin Might Have Taken a Shot at Former Teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook

Kevin Martin left Oklahoma City for Minnesota in the offseason, where he could get more money (his deal was worth $28 million) and obviously more shots. After the Timberwolves reached 3-0 with a win over the Knicks, here’s what Martin told the media:

"“This is such a fun team to play on. Nobody is trying to lead the league in scoring here. Everybody has the big picture of getting to the playoffs.”"

Before picking it apart, there’s some irony here – Kevin Love, his teammate, is leading the league in scoring (29.7) less than a week into the season.

As for the rest … are these subtle shots fired at Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook? Was Martin saying the Thunder weren’t a fun team to play on? His minutes and shots are up so far this season against last year (small sample size, obviously). Did he think Durant and Westbrook were ballhogs and me-first instead of having winning as the primary focus? Durant did average a career-high 4.6 assists per game last year.

The Timberwolves walloped the Thunder by 19 at home Friday in a game that wasn’t even that close. Minnesota led by 20 at the half and the result was never in doubt. Durant only played 27 minutes and had as many made shots (4) as turnovers (4). A day later, the Thunder decided Russell Westbrook was coming back.

The two teams meet against December 1st in Oklahoma City.
