Larry Fedora to UNC? A Former Tar Heels' Player Says It is Happening Today [UPDATE]
By Jason McIntyre
Fedora coached Southern Mississippi to an 11-2 record and Conference USA title this season. He’s rumored to be in the mix for several college football openings – Texas A&M, Ole Miss (before they landed Hugh Freeze), Illinois and to a lesser extent Arizona State.
Most of the UNC scuttlebutt so far has centered around Alabama assistant Kirby Smart and Auburn assistant Gus Malzahn. But nothing credible has emerged about any candidate. New UNC AD Bubba Cunningham is playing this one very close to the vest.
If you’re wondering about the credibility of Paschal and whether or not he’s plugged into the program, he had dinner with former UNC QB TJ Yates Sunday night following the Texans’ win over the Falcons. Paschal was a 2nd team All-ACC linebacker at UNC in 2008. [H/T Joe]
[UPDATE: Inside Carolina is now also reporting Larry Fedora will be UNC’s next coach. Still no confirmation from anyone, though.]
[UPDATE: Now, Inside Carolina says that is not an accurate portrayal of its report. What then, exactly, is Inside Carolina saying? I have no idea.]
[UPDATE: Football Rumor Mill is claiming that Fedora will “likely” accept the UNC job.]
