Madison Bumgarner Hit Yasiel Puig in Foot, Benches Cleared

Madison Bumgarner hit Yasiel Puig in the foot with a slider in an 1-2 count in the first inning of Tuesday night’s game in Los Angeles. Puig got mad and walked toward Bumgarner, but was blocked off by Buster Posey and umpire Adrian Johnson. Bumgarner got mad and walked toward Puig. A glove was thrown. The benches and bullpens cleared, but no punches were thrown.
Let this serve as another reminder that the Dodgers and Giants do not like each other, even if this was “not a fight,” technically speaking.
Vin Scully called it a show of “whatever,” which is a good way to put it.
It’s worth noting, earlier this year Bumgarner and Puig exchanged words following a home run by the Dodgers star on May 9. Bumgarner took exception to a bat flip, but again nothing much happened.
The Dodgers magic number to clinch the National League West was three at the start of play Tuesday.
