Michigan Dumps Offensive Coordinator Al Borges For 2014 Season

Michigan set records under Borges’ tenure. Many of them were not positive. The Wolverines led the nation in negative yardage plays in 2013. Michigan was held below 300 total yards nine times the past two seasons. Three years after pledging to install a power running offense, the team ranked 115th in yards per carry.

That’s not acceptable production from any coordinator, particularly one of the top 10 highest paid in the country. The Wolverines did have substantial offensive line transition. Most efforts to work around the problem seemed only to exacerbate it.

It’s not clear where Michigan will look for a replacement. Though, given their recruiting, expect them to look for a “pro-style” coach.
