Miguel Cotto Destroyed Daniel Geale Last Night, Canelo Megafight On Deck
By Rob Perez
As expected: Miguel Cotto defeated Daniel Geale in dominating fashion last night, via KO, 1:28 into the 4th round.
Cotto improved his professional record to 40-4, and recorded his 33rd knockout. While this is quite impressive, it’s not the biggest story to come from Barclay’s Center. During the post-fight interview, Cotto all but confirmed that the blockbuster fight with Canelo Alvarez is set….
"“Let’s do it,” Cotto said to HBO’s Max Kellerman. “Before that, I want to spend some time with my family and enjoy them again, but then it’s back to L.A. and training for Canelo”"
Cotto continued…
"“Canelo will be just another fight. If the people want that fight to happen, it will happen.”"
It’s not going to have the same hype as Mayweather/Pacquiao, but, ‘Cotto vs. Canelo’ is an absolute mammoth match up between two of the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighters, arguably the most important (recent) chapter of the boxing rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico, and may just be the fight boxing needs to be put “back on the [sports] map”…
Stay tuned, and let’s hope it’s made official ASAP….
