Mike Francesa Delivered a Rant For the Ages About the New York Jets
By Mike Cardillo
Mike Francesa, as anyone who comments on this website will quickly (and loudly) tell you, is an acquired taste. Either you enjoy the Sports Pope, or you don’t. Let’s agree Francesa’s eruption about the New York Jets on Monday was pretty funny and, fortunately, captured by the Fox Sports 1 cameras.
Long story short, Francesa played Jets GM John Idzik’s press conference about the 1-7 team’s state of affairs. Francesa chimed in with comments oozing with sarcasm during the live coverage of the presser and then blew his top afterward. In particular Francesa wasn’t thrilled Sammy Watkins caught three passes for 157 yards or that the team’s general manager used the term “Jets Nation” or various other Jets-related issues. From CBS Radio:
"“Idzik is so clueless, he doesn’t get it. First of all, he gives you this “Jet Nation” garbage. There is no such thing! ‘Play like a Jet.’ What does that mean? Commit a penalty or fumble the ball or drop the ball? Which one is that “play like a Jet?” We know it’s not ‘play well.’ Because we’ve all been here all our lives.”"
Francesa and the Jets have a long, antagonistic history with each other, but this year’s he’s been mild toward the struggling team … until today. That’s why he broke out this face:
