Neymar Scored on a Back-Heel in His First Game Back from Injury
By Mike Cardillo
Neymar returned to the field Monday in Barcelona’s game against Leon in the annual Joan Gamper Trophy match before La Liga commences later this month. It was the first time the Brazilian star played in a match since suffering a fractured vertebrae vs. Colombia in the World Cup quarterfinals in July. Neymar didn’t waste time reminding the world why he’s one of the most-exciting players in the game, scoring this all-too-easy back-heel into the vacated goal late in the first half of Barca’s 6-0 victory. He also added a chip over the Leon keeper for good measure.
Maybe Neymar could have gone with a simple tap-in, but why split hairs? It’s good to see the injury hasn’t hampered Neymar’s game or ability to do amazing things with a soccer ball.
The match also doubled as the Barcelona debut for Luis Suarez.
So, let’s see … this year Barcelona will field: Suarez, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, while Real Madrid counters with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema. El Clasico on Oct. 26th can’t arrive quickly enough.
