Odell Beckham Jr. Ignored Lena Dunham at the Met Gala

Odell Beckham Jr. attended the Met Gala way back in May. Beckham sat at the same table as Lena Dunham. Beckham didn’t know Lena Dunham and didn’t make enough of an effort to get to know Lena Dunham in the estimation of Lena Dunham. Here’s Dunham recounting her “interaction” with Beckham to Amy Schumer. Via Lenny:

" You and I were literally sitting across from each other at the Met Ball, and it was so surreal to get to do that. I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, “That’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.” It wasn’t mean — he just seemed confused. The vibe was very much like, “Do I want to fuck it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going to go back to my cell phone.” It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, “This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.”"

It’s like she crawled right inside OBJ’s brain! You can understand why she was so upset. Can you imagine going to one of the fanciest parties in the world and not having every stranger make a deep personal connection with you?

Understandably, Dunham has been widely criticized for this story and the charming things she projected onto Bekcham. She then went to Twitter to explain that everyone misunderstood what she was saying.

The original text of the interview also contained this line which has since been “condensed and edited” from the story. Via Jezebel:

"I attempted to grind my ass on Michael B. Jordan for an additional twenty minutes"

Here’s her justification for the objectification of Jordan.

I guess that’s what happens when you don’t ignore Lena Dunham? Her insecurities just wash away and no slights whatsoever are perceived. Then the red blooded straight woman takes over and you are subjected to a lifetime of grinding. If only OBJ hadn’t been so preoccupied with his phone.
