Team Captain David Wright Ruined Some Poor Kid's Lunch in Clubhouse
By Ty Duffy
Spring Training: where the major stories break. The New York Mets were playing an intrasquad game. Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, 22 and not pitching, was eating lunch. “Team Captain” David Wright did not stand for that. He made him return to the dugout.
The gravity of the situation is captured by this sentence.
"As most of the Mets toiled on the field during an intrasquad scrimmage Tuesday, prized pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard ate lunch in the air-conditioned comfort of the clubhouse."
Toiling! His teammates were toiling! Wright also noticed this miscreant “piling his plate with food” while “hustling” back to the dugout.
If anyone knows how a player in his early 20s should comport himself, it is David Wright. That’s the last time he played on a baseball team that was good.
