Tennessee Titans Stun Chiefs With Second Kick After Andy Reid Iced Ryan Succop
By Jason Lisk
Live by the close game, die by it. The Chiefs just decided not to wait until January to break the Arrowhead Stadium faithful’s hearts. The game was almost a repeat of the win over Oakland, featuring a big Tyreek Hill touchdown early, followed by virtually no offense for the rest of the game.
Tennessee was able to pull within a point with just over three minutes remaining, but Mike Mularkey opted to go for two to take the lead. Tennessee failed, but managed to get the ball back when the Chiefs could not pick up the first down.
Marcus Mariota got the Titans just inside field goal range for a long attempt in frigid and difficult conditions. Andy Reid called timeout just before the snap, and former Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop’s attempt came up short.
But given the second chance, Succop nailed the next one. Can we get rid of icing the kicker? Succop got a second chance to take a swing in bad conditions and made better of it.
Now, Oakland is back in front in the AFC West, Tennessee is temporarily in first place in the AFC South.
