The 10 Most Important Stats From Week 6 in the NFL
By Jason McIntyre
0: Sacks the Bears had of Brock Osweiller in their devastating 31-28 loss in Miami. Osweiler is slow-footed, and the Dolphins were down two offensive linemen. Last week, Ryan Tannehill was under constant duress in Cincinnati and turned the ball over twice, resulting in touchdowns; the Bears were 2nd in the NFL in sacks. And they couldn’t sack Osweiler. According to this box score, they had one QB hit.
1: Passes thrown beyond 10 yards down the field by Derek Carr Sunday in London. He has three deep threats in Amari Cooper (suffered a concussion), Jordy Nelson, and Martavis Bryant (three targets), and this is the saddest passing chart I’ve seen in awhile:
3: Fumbles by Deshaun Watson in a narrow 20-13 victory over the Bills. The Texans have all the ingredients to be a good team, but until they fix their offensive line, it’s going to be an uphill climb. Not only did he fumble three times, but Watson was sacked seven times.
5: That’s how many games Pat Mahomes has thrown for 300+ yards in a row. He “only” threw for 256 yards against the Chargers – completing just 15 passes – but since then no defense has been able to keep him under 300 yards.
6: Consecutive weeks there has been an overtime game. There have been nine games go to overtime in the first six weeks, the most overtime games since 1991.
7: The number of field goals by Jets kickerJason Myers in a 42-34 win over the Colts. In a season when kickers have been bad, Myers delivered the Jets a victory and scored 24 points, the most for any player in one game without scoring a touchdown.
11: Sacks by the Ravens of poor Marcus Mariota. The Ravens set a franchise record with the 11 sacks in a game that was never close, and ended 21-0. Za'Darius Smith had three sacks, and Patrick Onwuasor had two. Mariota only had 10 completions.
123: Yards receiving by Adam Thielen, who is staking his claim as the NFL’s best receiver. In all six games this season, he’s gone over 100 yards receiving. He caught 11 passes in Minnesota’s win over Arizona.
155: Rushing yards for Latavius Murray of the Vikings. This appears to be the most glossed-over result in another crazy day in the NFL, but Murray’s game was eye-opening. The Vikings had not rushed for 100 yards in a game this season, and Murray easily eclipsed that. It also came against what was a solid rush defense; according to Football Outsiders, the Cardinals came into the game ranked 12th against the run.
208: Todd Gurley set a career high with 208 yards rushing vs the Broncos in a 23-20 win that wasn’t that close. Gurley averaged 7.4 yards per carry, and scored twice. He’s scored in every game this season, either rushing or receiving.
