Watch Canada's Goalie Score an Improbable Goal From Beyond Midfield to Tie England
By Jason McIntyre
Quillan Roberts is the goalie on Canada’s Under-17 soccer team, and Wednesday night against England, he netted a goal that could go down as one of the most impressive in the country’s history. With three minutes left and Canada trailing 2-1, Roberts pushed the ball up near midfield and fired a strike that bounced once and then over the head of the bewildered England keeper, who was caught badly out of place. The goal by Roberts gave Canada its first point at the Championships – ever. The Canadian team had a 13-match losing streak dating back to 1987. During that stretch, Canada had been outscored 45-3.
