Grier was undefeated as Florida’s starting QB, with wins over Tennessee and Ole Miss. He was suspended after six weeks for a full calendar year, after violating the NCAA’s performance enhancing drug policy for a banned supplement.
This is a blow for Florida. Grier would have been eligible to return for the Gators in Week 7 in 2016. The Gators will be left with Treon Harris, held to 50 percent or fewer completions in five of seven starts to close the season, or be forced to roll the dice with a true freshman. Florida has the No. 3 pro-style QB Feleipe Franks committed for 2016.
Not a great development for the QB impoverished SEC. The conference was already losing four of its top six passers from 2015.
