Zack Greinke on Ryan Braun: "He Was Willing to Use Anyone That Got in His Path"

Zack Greinke was a teammate of Ryan Braun’s when the embattled slugger tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and went on a very public campaign insisting there had been no wrongdoing. After a few days of declining to comment on Braun’s 65-game suspension, Greinke broke his silence.

"“The main thing is, yeah, he lied to us,” Greinke said. “He forced us to lie for him, threw people under the bus in order to help himself out and didn’t care, blamed others for his mistakes and it’s just a lot of things you don’t expect from people.”"

The statement echoes the disappointment voiced by Aaron Rodgers, who had publicly supported Braun. Greinke said he and the rest of his Milwaukee Brewers teammates “100 percent believed” Braun’s claims of innocence.

"“It’s just the person, [Greinke said]. Just the fact that he was willing to use anyone that got in his path. The closer you were to him, the more he would use you. It’s just disappointing that a human being could be like that.”"

Greinke added he’s further frustrated by Braun’s inability to issue a “real” apology.

Based on everything that’s led this story to this point, it could be awhile before that happens.
