Napoli Soccer Fans are Extremely Passionate About Gonzalo Higuain
By Mike Cardillo
Napoli defeated Borussia Dortmund, 2-1 Wednesday in their hipster-approved Champions League matchup. Newly-acquired Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain got the scoring started for Napoli on a glancing header in traffic. It was an impressive goal, but paled in comparison to the way the crowd at the Stadio San Paolo reacted to it. (And probably to Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp’s anger at the fourth official during the match, too)
Napoli’s stadium announcer — a man who goes by the name ‘Decibel Bellini’ and appears to be a straight up pimp — led the chant from ground level, with no less than nine loud roars of Higuain’s name. This sort of fan adulation is the most likely reason he chose to sign for the Italian club over Arsenal in the summer.
This isn’t a rarity either. Here’s the clip of Higuain’s first goal for Napoli in a Serie A match vs. Atalanta.
Somebody get Signor Bellini to an NBA arena, post haste.
