Giancarlo Stanton, one of the best young players in baseball, is closing in on an unprecedented 13-year, $325 million deal with the Miami Marlins.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the sides are very close on the deal, which would include a no-trade clause.

Stanton, a strapping 6-foot-6, 240 pounds, turned 25 this month. This new contract would be a swell birthday present. In only his fifth year in the majors, Stanton hit 37 homers and knocked in 105 RBI for the woeful Marlins. He was an All-Star for the second time in his career.

If the deal happens, MLB would be thrilled from at least one point of view – it would be the richest deal in MLB history, surpassing the $275 million A-Rod got.
