Mike Francesa Reminded Mike Maccagnan the Jets Don't Love the Sports Pope

Mike Francesa interviewed new Jets GM Mike Maccagnan Thursday afternoon on his New York radio show, simulcast by Fox Sports 1. It was nothing out of the ordinary. But at one point Maccagnan innocently invited Francesa out to the team’s practice facility — a place New York’s No.1 has never visited — and the radio host reminded him the team doesn’t love him too much due to an ongoing antagonistic relationship.

Somehow this important fact was lost on the new GM. (Gee whiz, doesn’t an NFL executive have time to listen to New York sports radio or read sports blogs?!?)

Midway through the interview an unknown voice came onto a line saying something about “dropping the call.” Both parties shrugged it off, moved on and finished it as if it never happened.

It’s doubtful this was a repeat of the infamous Darrelle Revis call from 2011, which helped kickstart Francesa’s Cold War with the Jets. During a testy interview a Jets PR staffer told Revis to hang up the phone, which the All-Pro corner did. Thursday, Francesa was scheduled (and subsequently) interviewed Todd Bowles directly after Maccagnan, so I’d doubt anyone at Jets HQ was trying to cut things short today.

Nothing will top the Revis call, regardless.
