Sunderland and Aston Villa met today at the Stadium of Light in a proverbial “relegation six-pointer” in the Premier League. Against type, Aston Villa came out out and scored four goals on the road prompting hundred of Sunderland fans to stream toward the exits at the Stadium of Light following their side’s putrid first-half performance. Some of the fans who didn’t leave decided to try to get in the face of embattled manager Gus Poyet in the dugout. Not good.

How unlikely were the four goals from Villa, which entered the match with a league-low 15 in 28 games? Chew on this stat

And somehow it managed to get weirder and worse for Sunderland, as it started the second half with only 10 men on the field.
Eventually Seb Larsson hobbled back onto the field after receiving stitches to his ankle.

The fans who opted to head home early didn’t miss much. The match finished 4-0. On the bright side, despite the embarrassing defeat today, Sunderland remains four points better than QPR and out of the relegation zone. So there’s that.
