Rory McIlroy, who injured himself playing soccer before The Open Championship, will miss the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. According to Golf Digest, McIlroy notified tournament officials on Wednesday morning that he won’t be at the event. McIlroy won the Bridgestone in 2014 and went on to win the PGA Championship.

This isn’t a great sign for McIlroy heading into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights. Without the tune-up, or a tournament since the U.S. Open, will McIlroy be able to fend off Jordan Spieth (who missed the cut in his first two PGA appearances), Jason Day, and Zach Johnson if he is able to play?

Spieth is the favorite, no surprise there, at the moment according to OddsShark, but McIlroy is right behind him.

Golf wins again.
