Jason Day won the WGC-Dell Match Play at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas on Sunday. Day faced off against defending champ Rory McIlroy in his first match of the day and won, up one. Day then faced the only other player not to lose a match, Louis Oosthuizen, and disposed of him five and four.

On his quest to his second WGC-Match Play championship in three years, and his second win in as many weeks after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, Day passed Jordan Spieth in the official world golf rankings. After Spieth was bounced from the tournament, he told the media that this could be a good thing for him heading in to the Shell Houston Open later this week and another little tournament to follow:

"“To be honest, it could be a good thing for me going into the Masters,” said Spieth."

Despite an early back injury, Day proved that he is on form and will be a force when the Masters begins.

"“I just kept on rolling from last week,” Day said. “And even with a sore back this week, obviously it gradually got better and better, but I’m just really, really pleased with how I played.”"

Day has six wins in his last 13 starts.
