Dion Waiters getting away with an offensive foul in the final moments of Oklahoma City’s victory over San Antonio on Monday night was the play of Game 2. The controversial no-call ignited a wild 13.5 seconds of poor execution and confusion.

Thunder coach Billy Donovan somehow missed it.

When asked about the play in his postgame presser, Donovan had no idea what the reporter was driving at. To be fair, the question posed was quite vague and the coach hadn’t had the opportunity to see any replays so this seems like an unintentional stonewall.

Waiters obviously should have been whistled for pushing off on Manu Ginobili. But it’s not as if the play didn’t develop into an easy 3-on-1 scoring situation for the Spurs. Also, Ginobili’s foot was clearly on the sideline, which is also an infraction.

Both teams and the refs made mistakes. Heck, a Spurs fan even tried to hold back Steven Adams in the final seconds.

What happened, happened. Perhaps Donovan has the right mindset after all.

Onto Game 3.
