Mike Golic on the Ending of Mike & Mike: "You have a winning hand, why are you risking that?"
By Jason Lisk
Mike Golic was interviewed by Miles Blumhardt of the Coloradoan while in Loveland, Colorado this week. He spoke about his time with Mike Greenberg on Mike & Mike, which ended its 18-year run last week–Golic & Wingo will start on Monday.
Golic described his emotions as “anger, disappointment,” and described his reaction:
"I was like why are you ending the show? They said we wanted to be in New York. That’s not my pay grade to understand but I couldn’t understand a show in New York when our show was national. When I told them I thought it was a huge mistake and didn’t understand why they were taking something so successful and breaking it up, their thought was both shows would be successful. I almost feel liking you are splitting face cards at a black jack table. You have a winning hand, why are you risking that?"
Golic’s disappointment with the ending of the show, and the way it went down, is not new. Back when they formally announced the show would be ending on air, you could feel that. His son Jake went on a rant soon after talking about idiot executives at ESPN.
