We have to assume Hakan Calhanoglu thought his free kick from just shy of midfield had a chance to go in because no Hamburger SV teammates were anywhere close to goal when he struck it. And while he may have been the only person in the world who thought he could score from there, he’ll forever have the last laugh.

His mesmerizing strike somehow found the back of the net after an eventful flight path took it past Borussia Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller.

The shot is impressive from any angle, so here’s another. Upon further review, the impossible strike danced like an RA Dickey knuckleball.
