Senators Goalie Andrew Hammond Earns Free Liftime Pass at McDonald's

Ottawa Senators goalie Andrew Hammond is owner of one of best current nicknames in sports: The Hamburglar. After a shootout victory on Sunday that helped Ottawa remain in Stanley Cup playoff contention, a fan threw a burger onto the ice at the Canadian Tire Centre. Hammond didn’t eat the burger, as you can see in the video embedded above. According to the Ottawa Sun it was too cold to consume. (He was also wearing his mask, which would make burger consumption difficult.)

The Sun also reports that as a result of the incident, Hammond earned a free lifetime pass at McDonald’s via a local franchise owner, John Bergeron, who happened to be the father of the goalie’s collegiate coach at Bowling Green. Bergeron wanted to run a burger-related promo, but corporate decided to offer the goalie a free lifetime pass for burgers, nuggets and (for this month) Shamrock shakes. Oh right, since he’s in Canada he could also load up on McPoutine.

Sounds like Hammond is taking his gift in stride:

"“I don’t know, I’m thinking they have that new light menu, with all the salad and stuff,” he said. “I guess at the end of the day at least I know I’ll never end up starving. If hockey doesn’t work out, I have a meal plan.”"

This leads to a very important existential question: how many McNuggets could one consume with a free lifetime pass to McDonalds? Unofficially it would stretch back-and-forth to the moon 27 times.
