Bournemouth became the second team to clinch promotion(*) to the EPL next season via a 3-0 win over Bolton on Monday. The small club on England’s southern coast was in fourth division as recently as 2009-10 and has never played in the top flight. Thanks to the investment of Russian owner Maxim Demin and the guidance of manager Eddie Howe the Cherries have managed three consecutive promotions.

The celebrations included a mass pitch invasion at tiny Dean Court (capacity 12,000) and some crazed, eff bombs from chairman Jeff Mostyn inside the dressing room captured on Sky Sports. Yep, that’s how much promotion means to the clubs involved, saying nothing of the EPL television payments.

As the 2015-16 EPL season approaches, you’ll hear a lot about Howe. Here’s an excellent profile of the 37-year-old from the Guardian in September.

Watford clinched promotion on Saturday. Watford goes into the final weekend of games with 88 points, while Bournemouth has 87. Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Ipswich Town, Derby County, Brentford and Wolves are alive for the four playoff spots that will determine the third and final promoted club.
