Matt Carpenter's Sac-Fly Produced Two Cardinal Runs Thanks to Sloppy Red Sox Errors
By Mike Cardillo
Matt Carpenter hit a sac-fly to right with the bases loaded in the seventh inning of Game 2 of the World Series at Fenway Park . It would up plating a pair of runs for the Cardinals, thanks to errors by Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and pitcher Craig Breslow.
The sac-fly scored Pete Kozma. That was the normal part. The throw from Jonny Gomes got by Saltalamacchia at the plate. Breslow backing him up tried to throw out Jon Jay at third but it sailed into the seats. Not a smart decision from a guy who went to Yale.
In Game 1 the Cardinals made three errors, leading to four unearned runs. Tonight the Sox are returning the favor.
